Situated on the northern coast of Sicily west of Palermo, Castellammare del Golfo began as a trading port until it was conquered by Arabs whose castle gave it's name to the whole gulf. The tranquil harbor, fine sand beaches and waterfront cafe's have made this town the gulf's main resort and a popular weekend getaway for Palermo residents.

Erice, the only Sicilian town that has been inhabited since pre-history, sits 800 metres above sea level on a small peak near the coastal town of Trapani. Erice derives it's charm from cobbled streets, arched passageways and stunning views over the Western Mediterranean.

Located on the western coast of Sicily, Trapani is a fishing & ferry port with a long history. Today the town is renowed for its fine seafood & Sicilian cuisine, and makes a good base for exploring this side of the island.
